Ganesha under Keertimukha Arch

This gentle, wise, elephant-headed Lord Ganesha is one of Hinduisms most popular deities. He is the remover of obstacles, the deity whom worshippers first acknowledge when they visit a temple.

In this sandalwood sculpture Ganesha is seated on a wooden base. The arch that surrounds him has the Kirtimukha (a fierce monster with fangs) on the top. He holds a tusk in one hand, a bowl of sweets in the second and a conch shells in his third and fourth hands. A beautiful crown and a snake around his waist add splendour to his ensemble. This idol is made of sandalwood.
