The Buddha serenely stands upon his blooming lotus flower base. Each petal of the lotus flower is carved individually to look like the crest of a wave.
The Buddha’s robes gracefully flow over his body. The Buddha’s right hand is upright in the Abhaya mudra. The Abhayamudrā “gesture of fearlessness” is a mudrā (gesture) that is the gesture of reassurance and safety, which dispels fear and accords divine protection and bliss in many Indian religions
The richness and the aroma of this wood cannot be explained in words. Statues sculpted from this wood were owned by kings and heads of states. Sandalwood is also used extensively in religious practices as it is seen as on offering fit for the Gods.
This wood will retain its fragrance for decades and is so sought after that it is now becoming very rare and difficult to find.
